Expanding Horizons in Healthcare Education: Miriam Chickering Shares Her Story on ‘Talk of Iowa’

Following the inaugural meeting of the Iowa Global Volunteer Corps, facilitated by Del Christianson, Miriam Chickering joined Charity Nebbe on “Talk of Iowa” on August 30. During the interview, Miriam, CEO of the Frank Foundation, shared her inspiring journey from nurse educator to founder of Nurses International and her current leadership role at the Foundation.

Driven by her desire to share her knowledge, Miriam launched Nurses International, a global platform that provides nursing curriculum and content to nurses worldwide. She highlighted that Nurses International’s success was based on its volunteer network of nurse educators, with everyone working toward a shared goal.

A pivotal moment in Miriam’s journey came when she realized that the need for high-quality, accessible educational materials extended beyond nursing to other healthcare disciplines. This realization led her to connect with Dr. Erica Frank, Founder of NextGenU, who had already pioneered similar work in public health and medicine. NextGenU’s innovative work now encompasses a broad range of disciplines, including addiction training, medicine, public health, and humanitarian response.
